MARINE CORPS LEAGUE OF PALM BEACH COUNTY

Since its charter on 11-Nov-1973 The General A.A. Vandegrift Detachment 068 has supported our Marines, FMF Corpsmen, local Veterans, their families and Youth through various programs and fund-raising events.

We are active in the community; involved in such events as Holiday/Veterans Parades; providing Color Guard/Honor Guard for our fallen Veterans, as well as assistance to our Veterans and their families during their time of need. Our members visit our Veterans at the local VA Extended Care Unit on a weekly basis and provide other assistance thru ice cream socials and meals at least once a month as supported by the VA Staff.

We work in conjunction with the local Marine Corps Recruiters and 4th ANGLICO, the local Marine Corps Reserve Unit to provide care packages as well as support in other forms for our Marines, FMF Corpsmen and Veterans who have served or are currently serving in areas of conflict around the globe.

For more than 25 years we have hosted an annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball for our Marine Veterans as well as our Active Duty and Reserve Marines. We raise funds for our scholarship program by hosting an annual Mess Night/Dining In for our Military Veterans.

We host an annual Golf Tournament, Spaghetti Dinner and Pig Roast as means to raise funds for the specific purpose of supporting our servicemen and women, their families in times of need, as well as local youth activities.

In the past we sponsored the Young Marines, a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school. The Young Marines program promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. It focuses on character building, leadership, and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines is not a recruiting force for the U.S. Marine Corps. The program strives to instill the Young Marine core values of Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork as well as The USMC core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment to each of our members.

To promote a healthy lifestyle and competition, The General A.A Vandegrift Detachment 068 in conjunction with the local Marine Corps Recruiters, I & I Staff and Marine Reserve unit sponsored an Annual Track and Field Meet at John I Leonard High School for several years during the late 1970s. Several of our current Members helped to put on that Track & Field Meet, while one of our Members participated as a High School Athlete.

Our Detachment continues to promote a healthy lifestyle and completion by sponsoring, as funds allow, various youth sports teams from football to track; swimming to Little League Baseball; youth Lacrosse to Archery.

Known as the General A.A Vandegrift Detachment 068, Marine Corps League of the Palm Beaches for several years, the Detachment requested and was approved a Charter update by Marine Corps League National Headquarters. We are proud to announce that in an effort to better reflect the Detachment’s service throughout the entire Palm Beach County area, on 29-Sep-08, a new Charter was received from Marine Corps League National Headquarters with a Detachment name update to The General A.A. Vandegrift Detachment 068, Marine Corps League of Palm Beach County.
